1st SPRING Workshop, November 26 – 28, 2013
The 1st SPRING (Solar Physics Research Integrated Network Group) workshop is being held from November 26 – 28, 2013 at the scenic Brugger’s Hotel Park by Titisee hosted by the Kiepenheuer-Institut für Sonnenphysik in Freiburg, Germany.
The purpose of the workshop is to work on the scientific requirements for a new ground-based network of telescopes for full-disk synoptic observations of the Sun.
The desire for such a new network is motivated by new scientific research directions in solar physics, the requirement of real-time context data for high-resolution solar telescopes, and the need of continuous, long-term, consistent, and reliable solar data as foundation for space weather prediction.
At the workshop the following topics will be discussed:
- Scientific objectives to be achieved by high-quality synoptic data
- Supporting data required by high-resolution observation programs
- Solar data needed for space weather predictions
- Relations with other existing ground-based networks
- Strawman concepts for instrumental designs.
Furthermore, a first version of a Scientific Requirement Document will be drafted to describe the goals and preliminary instrumental concepts for SPRING.
Registration for the workshop is open to the broad scientific solar physics and space weather communities interested in a new ground-based synoptic network. There is no registration fee. The maximum number of participants is 50.
The deadline for registration is September 20, 2013.
Attendees who plan to present information are asked to submit an abstract by
November 1, 2013.
